365 days of izo - day 363 - learning at the agriculture museum
With Izo getting bigger and winter on her way out, our tiny human was finally able to enjoy the Agriculture Museum to it's fullest. The ducks were hands down her favourite. We got to spend time with a sheep that had given birth that morning. Her
placenta and membranes were still in the pen with three baby sheep. Maya was in such
awe and had soooooo many questions. Maya then got to participate in a
cooking demonstration at the learning centre and made and ate yummy
chick pea cookies. All in all a fantastic day of learning and fun with my two incredible girls.
365 days of izo - day 355 - learning all about vikings
The Museum of History has some amazing activities going on for March break. Lots of crafts (Maya made a Viking helmet), a giant boat and more lego pieces than you can ever imagine. My darling Izo decided that 3 am was a great time to begin her day, so I am forever grateful my friend was able to join me. Pretty sure I would have gone fetal without her.
365 days of izo - day 348 - museum monday
The Thomas the train exhibit at the Childrens Museum is fantastic. I would definitely recommend
coming here on a Monday when there are significantly fewer kids so you
can actually enjoy the exhibit without shoving/being shoved/wanting to
slit your wrists. We were at the train exhibit for almost 2 hours today
and both girls loved it. I am forever in awe of the kind and happy disposition of the people who work here.
home schooling meet-up - Canadian Museum of History.
Attended a workshop on Friday called the "Festival of Lights" at the Childrens Museum with our home schooling group. My ears are no long bleeding from the noise (there is nothing louder than a museum with awesome acoustics filled with children), so I can finally sit down and blog about it. The workshop covered Hanukkah (the kids played a dradle game), Diwali (they all got henna done), Loi Krathong (while making lanterns; seen below) and Christmas in Mexico. It ended in an incredibly beautiful way but at the time I was so tired and still recovering from losing Maya for 5 full minutes that the beauty of it was completely lost. While learning about Christmas in Mexico, the children got to pretend they were Joseph and Mary looking for room at the inn. They got turned down at several places before finally making their way to Canada where they were welcomed with the worlds "everyone is welcome here in Canada". How wonderfully perfect to hear those words on the same day the first batch of Syrian refugees arrived. The workshop ended with a pinata and candy, so all in all it was fantastic. After lunch we went back to the museum to explore and came home after 5 hours absolutely exhausted. I'm pretty sure Maya didn't hear/absorb a word of what was said at the workshop since the noise and chaos was off the charts but the activities that came with each festival and the museum space itself made this a fantastic little workshop.
the mud oven
Saturday morning at The Mud Oven.
This was our first time here and we both loved it. So much so that sharing was starting to get really difficult for both of us and I'm already making plans to come back here without Maya. Such a fun place for all ages and so well organized. Not budget friendly enough that we can come here as often as I'd like (which is ok because I'm not sure I want a house full of ceramic crafts). Maya was sooooo into it. She had a hard time sharing with me as well; which is rare for Maya. We painted a penguin (still obsessed with freaking Pingu) and a coffee mug for papa to take to work.
sarah's 10th birthday party at the flour shoppe | ottawa photographer
Sarah's 10th party was hosted at the Flour Shoppe and I honestly found myself wanting to join in (too bad I was working). Everyone got to decorate their cupcake boxes first and then got a little tutorial from Melissa (the super talented baker/owner) on how to decorate cupcakes. Everyone had a blast and this is such a fantastic idea for birthday parties. Honestly, *I* want to do this for my birthday. The setting was soooo dreamy and it was the perfect sunny day and the entire place smelled like cupcakes. Heaven.
I will not be posting pictures of the other kids (I create a private password protected gallery for birthday parties) as I don't think it's appropriate, but you'll have a pretty good idea of just how much fun everyone had.
